Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security for Windows: Migration details Release date: 11.11.2024 Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security for Windows build number: 3.4.0.36 Contents: * Updatable versions * Migration of the configured application settings * Migration to a new operation mode (Long Term) * Updating the Administration tools * License Agreement for the application and Privacy Policy for products and services * KSN Statement * Licensing * Installation settings for migration * Contact information and application support UPDATABLE VERSIONS Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security 3.4 for Windows supports updates for the following versions of the application: * Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security 2.3.0.754 * Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security 3.1.0.461 * Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security 3.2.0.200 * Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security 3.3.0.87 If you have a version earlier than 2.3, uninstall the application before installing the new version. MIGRATION OF THE CONFIGURED APPLICATION SETTINGS 1. The following settings are imported without changing the values: - Components and tasks settings values. - Task logs and system audit logs - Contents of Quarantine and Backup - Accounts with the respective rights to start the tasks - Permissions to control the application and Kaspersky Security Service - Application tasks notifications - KAVFS service continues execution with PPL attribute if the attribute was assigned to it in the previous version of the application 2. During an upgrade, the applications are reset or changed to the default values for the new version of the application with respect to: - all counters, including anti-virus database statuses - data about installed updates of application modules and anti-virus databases - task statuses - application and task settings configured through the registry - application and task settings that were changed during the installation of critical fixes. 3. Migrating Applications Launch Control settings and rules During an application upgrade, Applications Launch Control rules are migrated without changes. When updating the application, we recommend that you stop the Applications Launch Control task if it is running in active mode, or change the task to Statistics only mode. After completing an update of the application, we recommend checking the migrated Applications Launch Control rules and their operation in Statistics only mode. 4. Changes within the new functionality after migration. After the new application version is installed, current activation code is partially hidden, along with the activation code added in the previous version of the application if applicable. 5. Installation over the password-protected application. For versions 2.x and 3.x, migration to version 3.4 is supported with password preservation (you must enter the current password if the new application version is installed over the password-protected version). MIGRATION TO A NEW OPERATION MODE (LONG TERM) When you install Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security 3.4.0.36 for Windows from the /exec folder over the application version that does not use signature analysis and anti-virus databases to protect your device, the set of application components are automatically expanded by adding the following components and tasks: - Real-Time File Protection - On-Demand Scan - Network Threat Protection The archive containing the anti-virus databases is unpacked automatically. If you do not want to use these components and tasks to protect your computer, restart the installation from the /product_long_term folder. We recommend that you use this option if you want to protect the systems with limited resources, and if you plan to use the application in the Long Term mode. In this case, you can activate the application for a long term, and the Applications Launch Control component provides computer protection. When you install Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security 3.4.0.36 for Windows from the /product_long_term folder over the application version that does not use signature analysis and anti-virus databases to protect your computer, the set of application components are automatically reduced by removing the following components and tasks: - Real-Time File Protection - On-Demand Scan - Components update If you want to continue using these components and tasks, restart the installation from the /exec folder. UPDATING ADMINISTRATION TOOLS Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security 3.4 for Windows Console supports installation over the previous versions, and preserves the configured settings. Also, backwards compatibility is supported. - The values of the settings, configured in the updatable versions of the Application Console, are preserved unchanged after update. - The Application Console 3.4 can manage the application of any previous updatable version. - The Application Console of any previous updatable version can manage the application of version 3.4. Application Administration Plug-in for version 3.4 supports installation over the Administration Plug-in version 2.1.0.xxx and later, and preserves the configured settings. Also, backwards compatibility is supported. - The values of the settings, configured in the updatable versions of the Application Administration Plug-in, are preserved unchanged after update. - The Administration Plug-in 3.4 can manage the application of any previous updatable version. - The Administration Plug-in of any previous updatable version can manage the application of version 3.4. Administration Plug-in for application version 3.4 is installed along with the previously installed Plug-in of the version earlier than 2.1.0.xxx. Automatic update to the new version is not performed in this case. Also, updates of the minor (by the build number) application Administration Plug-in versions are supported. The application supports creation of Kaspersky Security Center policies based on the policies created earlier for any version of Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security for Windows. The Plug-in adds the configured policies to the default policies for the updated Plug-in version. You do not need to convert the created policies from the previous application versions if you updated the Plug-in to version 3.4.0.36. Note: if the version of the administration tools differs from the version of the application, the application settings appear and function improperly. LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR THE APPLICATION AND PRIVACY POLICY FOR PRODUCTS AND SERVICES To perform migration to the new version of the application: - Read and accept the terms of the License Agreement. - Read and accept the terms of the Privacy Policy describing data processing. The texts of the License Agreement and Privacy Policy are available in the installation wizard, as a part of the application distribution package, and in the "Start" menu after you install the application on the computer. The Privacy Policy text is also available on Kaspersky web-site: https://www.kaspersky.com/Products-and-Services-Privacy-Policy. KASPERSKY SECURITY NETWORK STATEMENT After application update, the KSN usage task is stopped. To continue usage of KSN cloud infrastructure to protect your computer after update to version 3.4 of the application, you must read and accept the terms of Kaspersky Security Network Statement. The text of KSN Statement for Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security 3.4 for Windows are available in the application interface when you configure the task settings or KSN Usage policies. LICENSING If the license for the updated version is valid at the moment of update, the application automatically uses current license key to activate the version 3.4.0.36. When you activate version 3.4.0.36 of the application using the license key of an updatable application version, usage of the new components might be restricted. The key that was used to activate the application versions 2.x and 3.x with Basic license, allows the usage of all components of the application version 3.4.0.36, except for: - File Integrity Monitor - Registry Access Monitor - Log Inspection The key that was used to activate the application versions 2.x and 3.x with Advanced license, allows the usage of all components of the application version 3.4.0.36. INSTALLATION SETTINGS FOR MIGRATION Application Installation over the previous version does not require restarting the computer. By default, the application creates a new installation folder based on the path to the existing installation folder. The application creates a folder using the name of the new version, while using the same folder path if applicable. An administrator can specify a new path for the installation folder.
